Recycled business cards for Industrial Sewing Workshop
For anyone in need of some small batch sewing in Australia, the Industrial Sewing Workshop is the place to go.
Based in Castlemaine, Victoria this studio can cut, make, trim, alter and sew for large and small jobs. While they make their own goods, such as Ron D Swan pannier bags, canvas cubes and firewood slings, they can also whip up solutions to prototypes for individuals, designers or organisations across Australia.
As the business grows, it's getting more and more important for the Industrial Sewing Workshop to tell people about what it is capable of. Something as small and simple as a business card can go a long way in spreading the word about their abilities and contact details.
Specialising in recycled business card printing, PrintTogether became involved with the workshop to create unique business cards that reflected the company and endorsed environmentally friendly practices at the same time.
Printed using vegetable based inks on 350gsm EcoStar 100 per cent recycled paper, these cards boast a clean green printing process, but are also an intriguing piece of design.
The first and most noticeable aspect of the cards is their shape. The Workshop used the standard 90mm x 55mm size of a card - then cut it in two. This is a great way to make the most of the space, reducing waste and getting the most value for money by producing two for the price of one. Interestingly, the design uses the golden ratio to make the cut, rather than straight down the middle. Plus, this design alludes to the idea that nothing is wasted, which is an important philosophy when working with materials.
As for the design itself, it shows the no frills, industrial aspect of the company, while showing the creative side with small stitching pattern that makes the cards look not dissimilar to a sewing pattern.
