The book 'Get Lost' showcases artists musings
Artists are inspired by anything from an interaction to a surprising colour combination. Sometimes inspiration comes in the form of a question.
This is how the book, Get Lost, came to be. It combines the works of four artists, James Raftopoulous, Calan Stanley, Wanissa Somsuphangsri and D Joy Alacausin, who each tackled the same questions in a different way.
The questions that spurred on the book and the artwork were: How do we walk? Where do we walk? Why do we walk? Can these fundamental processes also describe our identity? The everyday and largely unconscious activity of walking takes on a whole new light with these questions that encourage thoughts of how we move through the world.
The featured works look at how the process of design is similar to that of walking - you have to start somewhere to begin the journey, and enjoy the process on your way to the destination.
James' work is quite graphic, using clean lines and bold colours. It's also distinctly urban with a youthful and easy aesthetic, whereas Wanissa tends to do more delicate line drawings that show people, animals and nature. Her work also has a street vibe, and feels effortlessly cool.
The book has been seamlessly put together. It's made up of two parts: 'How I walk' and 'Why I walk' , with extractable posters, a mini book, and a 'wrap' which holds it all together. The colour scheme is black and white, with bursts of colour in splashes of interweaving yellow and blue.
The art is bold, and although each of the artists have a different style and response to the question, it is cohesive. It all fits together to create an artistic book that captures the musings of some of Melbourne's artists.
All of the pieces of the book were created with clean green printing and the best quality materials to highlight these works of art.
