Daniella Germain Wedding Stationery
One of the greatest elements of running a printing business is seeing the wide variety of designs that come through the door. Recently PrintTogether printed a beautiful collection of wedding stationery for Melbourne based illustrator Daniella Germain.
We caught up with Daniella to discuss her work:
Your wedding stationery is stunning, how hard was it being both designer and client?
Can you tell me a little about how you got into book illustration?
I studied Communication Design at RMIT, graduating two years ago. For one of my final projects, I illustrated a Mexican cookbook called 'My Abuela's Table', based on my Mexican grandmother's (Abuela) recipes. I was lucky enough for it to fall into the hands of my now publisher, Hardie Grant Books, who offered me a book deal not long after I finished uni. My Abuela's Table was published mid last year, and I've been illustrating and designing ever since! Apart from illustrating books, getting married has inspired me to start my own (illustrated) wedding stationery webshop called 'The Paper Pinwheel'. I aim for it to be 'live' in the next month or two! Stay tuned!
If you can give one piece of advice to young illustrators starting out what would it be?

Thank
you! Oh my goodness...so difficult! It's easy to work from a client's
brief, but setting your own brief is another story. Even worse when it
is your own wedding invitations. I think I read too many wedding blogs
and got very confused about what I wanted. There was also the pressure
of coming up with something good, being an illustrator/graphic designer
and all!! I took a very long time to decide what I wanted to do, and
lots of rough drafts, but the final designs actually came from me just
doodling those sweet little birds...and my obsession with succulents and
plants! It went from there. Luckily I was eventually inspired, as I was
running out of time to send them out!

Try
to get your work out 'into the world' as much as you can, and draw
everything because you never know when you will come up with something
brilliant that will kick start your career!
