You're invited to my wedding

Wedding invites

The lace, the love, the letter press! Weddings are a beautiful event for all involved, but how does anyone know where to go, or when?

The invite of course. So it's a great place to start to set the tone of the day and show everyone what you're all about as a couple through the most fantastic medium we can think of - print.

Here are just a few ideas from us to you if you're unsure of where to start.

Make them go 'wow!'

Even though everyone you're inviting is most likely already aware that you're about to get hitched, this is paper proof you're getting married, it's going to be on this specific date and everyone you care about is going to be there to partake in the celebrations. Or be square.

The nostalgic types will want to keep the invite as a momento of the day, so give them a reason to keep yours at the top of the box. This could be with the design, the shape, added accessories such as ribbons or bows, or just an envelope full of glitter or confetti.

Invite your theme to the design

Are you going classic and chic? Rustic and down to earth? Are you both going to declare your love for Star Wars along with each other and have an all out sci fi theme? Whatever your proposed (pun intended) plan, your invite can be a taster course for what's to come, so don't be afraid to make it as personal as you like.

Consider employing the services of a graphic designer. Show them your plans of what you want your wedding to look like and be about, and together you can create the perfect introduction to your special day. You can provide the information needed in a way that is personal.

When you're thinking long and hard about your invites, but are stuck for ideas, there are a number of places you can turn to for inspiration. Think about what you're like as a couple, for example. Are you the life of the party? Are you both interested in local art or did you meet in an ice cream parlour? There's bound to be something that makes you unique, such as a sweet story, personal tradition or quality that you can share via these invitations.

For a super simple and sweet wedding, you could use brown boxboard with clean black letters in the middle of a thin frame and backed with a map of Australia and a dotted line connecting all of the places you have traveled together.

Traditional and elegant celebrations may call for an invite with white, duck egg blue and black as the primary colours, cursive script and a lace cover with a blue ribbon holding it all together.

Watercolour is a wonderful way to convey fluidity and a love of creative arts, so if this sounds like you, it could be the way to go with your wedding invites.
