Have you ever wanted to Meet the Maker?
Have you ever wondered how amazing art comes to be? Meet the Maker studio tours are a great opportunity to see how art is created. The idea to venture behind the scenes of some of Melbourne's favourite artists blossomed from some bright minds at RMIT University. The tours are set to run from August 12-September 24 from 4pm-5pm.
What is RMIT?
RMIT, the university of technology and design, is the largest in the country and is a leader in many areas. The university has won many awards, and there are three campuses in Melbourne, two in Vietnam and even one in the heart of Spain in Barcelona.
What makes these tours special?
The tours will take place throughout Melbourne and offer an unmissable opportunity to see the personal spaces of local artists. Some of the most innovative designers have been chosen to open their creative spaces to visitors. You will be able to see professional workplaces first hand and are likely to gain insight into the different ways art is produced.
Some of the artists include Jess Johnson, Kitiya Palaskas and Claire Best. You'll see the work of visual artist, Jess Johnson in her studio at Gertrude Contemporary. Her drawings are complex and intricate, displaying complex worlds in beautifully bold patterns.
Where can I find more information?
PrintTogether recently printed a postcard for RMIT University to help spread the word about this fantastic event. The postcards have been printed on 350gsm EcoStar paper, which is brilliantly white, 100 per cent recycled card stock, a staple of PrintTogether's sustainable printing service.
Alan Weedon, freelance photographer based in Melbourne, has brought his elegant and simplistic style to the cover photograph. The photo depicts a well-worn coat, used paint brushes fanned out in a jar, and paint splattered card - hinting at the secrets you can uncover with one of these tours.
