Sustainable printing for the Transitions Film Festival Program Booklet
Melburnians are quickly becoming aware of the annual Transitions Film Festival, now in its third year. Screenings and performances during the event have a slightly different take to your usual blockbusters, with a focus on "features, shorts and documentaries about the transition to a better world".
This event is put on by Undergrowth Inc with a mind to entertain, educate and enlighten those who attend with topics on innovations in technology, renewable energy, empowering the community, eco-architecture, ecological economics and much more. These stories are there to inspire audiences with hope, resilience and action and explore the social, economic, environmental and cultural pillars of sustainability.
Now finished, the festival ran from February 16 to 23 during the Sustainable Living Festival in Melbourne, but tours around Australia throughout the year.
To keep the sustainability theme running through all of their production and processes, PrintTogether was able to use sustainable printing methods to create this year's festival program booklet.
To fit all of the program details and extra information, the booklet is 16 pages, printed on A6. The main design on the cover cleverly uses a mixture of the old and the new - photography and vector images - to convey a sense of transitioning from one stage to the next.
The sketches of both modern technology and plants around the logo reflect this idea and comes across as stunning, creative and futuristic all at once. The clean sans serif typeface keeps the focus on the images, while the characters of the man and child looking to the future once again touch on the idea of the old transitioning the new to create a better future.
All of this was achieved on 120gsm recycled paper, and the full colour pages are printed with vegetable based inks.
